The Gunners' boss feels assured that his side can keep managing with injury setbacks after revealing that star striker Kai Havertz is not ready for a few more weeks.

Prolonged Recovery for German Star

The German forward has been absent for months following an operation on his knee. Initially expected to come back earlier in December, the manager stated the player faced a hurdle when increasing his training and could not progress “the required stage.”

“We took lessons, and managed to assemble a team that is considerably steadier and has more options,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Midweek Fixture

This update presents a selection headache for the midweek home game against Brentford. Arteta must choose between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who scored in an unfamiliar forward role on Sunday, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who featured briefly from a muscle injury as a substitute. Veteran striker Gabriel Jesus remains in contention following a lengthy absence.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Arteta feels the substantial investment on reinforcements during the summer has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to navigate such unavailability.

When asked if more options was helping their title quest, the manager agreed. “Yes, as this campaign has been worse in the attacking line, and now the situation with the defence,” he added.

“We learned from the past that we have to use players in various roles, and they have to be able to perform various functions if we want to compete at this level. And the instance of Mikel is probably the prime illustration.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Frustrated Havertz

Commenting on the setback previously mentioned by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta offered additional context. “He was doing everything. He failed to advance to the required step and now it appears like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his eagerness to have him back. “We’re all desperate to have him. I mean, he is a footballer who, for me, I love so much for what he brings to the team, but his personality, his attitude. I see him suffer being outside.”

“His availability record is outstanding, he's rarely been injured, and I look forward to get him back with the squad playing because I feel it’s going to be a huge lift.”
