Chief Executive Signs Measure to Release Further Epstein Records After Period of Opposition
Donald Trump declared on Wednesday night that he had endorsed the bill overwhelmingly endorsed by Congress members that mandates the federal justice agency to disclose more files related to the convicted sex offender, the late child sexual abuser.
This action arrives after an extended period of resistance from the leader and his supporters in the legislature that split his core constituency and generated conflicts with some of his longtime supporters.
Trump had opposed releasing the Epstein documents, describing the issue a "false narrative" and criticizing those who sought to release the documents public, despite vowing their publication on the campaign trail.
However he changed direction in the past few days after it become clear the legislative chamber would pass the bill. Donald Trump commented: "Everything is transparent".
The details are unknown what the justice department will release in as a result of the bill – the legislation specifies a variety of possible documents that need to be disclosed, but allows exclusions for some materials.
The President Endorses Bill to Compel Publication of Additional Jeffrey Epstein Files
The legislation calls for the top justice official to make non-classified related documents open for review "in an easily accessible digital format", including all investigations into Epstein, his associate his accomplice, aircraft records and movement logs, persons mentioned or identified in relation to his offenses, organizations that were connected with his trafficking or economic systems, immunity deals and other plea agreements, official correspondence about prosecution choices, evidence of his imprisonment and death, and particulars about possible record elimination.
The agency will have one month to turn over the records. The bill includes certain exemptions, encompassing redactions of victims' identifying information or private records, any descriptions of youth molestation, publications that would endanger active investigations or legal cases and depictions of fatality or exploitation.
