Players eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined don't need to wait much longer. A highly anticipated trial experience will go live on Jan. 7, offering a substantial taste into the game's opening hours. Importantly, all advancement earned within this demo will be able to be carried over directly into the full game upon its subsequent release.
More Than a Simple Re-release: The Complete Overhaul
This title constitutes a from-scratch reimagining of the iconic year 2000 RPG, originally titled Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a significant departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, such as the previously launched HD-2D iterations, this version utilizes a charming three-dimensional visual presentation. Environments appear to look like intricate miniature worlds, with party members sporting a whimsical stylized look.
"Even with the previous port, the narrative was remained notoriously lengthy. Therefore, we reached a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an adventure for contemporary players."
Significant Mechanical Enhancements and Updates
Square Enix have introduced several enhancements to refresh the original experience. These include:
- Expedited Overworld Battles: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, weaker enemies can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map without entering a full turn-based battle sequence.
- Variable Combat Speed: Players have the option to accelerate combat animations to quickly power through less challenging encounters.
- Expanded Job Mechanics: A completely new job class has been introduced for this remake. Furthermore, characters now have the option to master a second job, significantly enhancing customization depth.
These alterations seek to address a key the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its daunting playtime. That initial main quest could easily take more than 100 hours to complete. This new version has been specifically designed to enhance flow and reduce any filler.
