Iran Reports Strike on US Base in the Kingdom of Bahrain, During Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched strikes across the region in retaliation for a large-scale and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone close to the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has yet to issue a statement.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their airspace.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on areas linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump urging the people of Iran to revolt against the regime.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," it added.
It said debris fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force is stationed at Al Dhafra Air Base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
