Outrage as Renowned South African DJ Killed in the City of Johannesburg.
A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been fatally gunned down in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country grappling with persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the 40-year-old presenter was approached by a trio of assailants, with one opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown and no arrests have been made, police said.
How It Happened
Police said that Stock was attacked as he was leaving a premises near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the property managing the setup of security systems, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.
"Authorities believe the man was approached by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they opened fire at him before escaping on foot," an official report said.
Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a guard's attire firing shots on Stock before making his escape.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was shot but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an weapon on his person and nothing was taken during the attack.
Crucial forensic evidence, like spent shells, were discovered at the location.
Investigation Ongoing
Police have appealed members of the public who may have seen the suspects to contact them.
"We know they covered significant ground after the attack, and officers have been following their trail to determine their destination," added an official.
A Nation in Mourning
His sister, Nicole Stock, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I am shattered," she said.
"It is clear he was a champion for numerous individuals. He addressed issues courageously about issues not many people were willing to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She requested the community to not sharing explicit content from the scene, saying this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's young family.

Stock was the presenter of Ngicel' iVisa, a series that aired on a popular local TV network.
Apart from his work in broadcasting, Stock was involved in various business ventures, including protective services, supplying VIP protection services and securing prestigious gatherings across South Africa.
He was also said to be engaged in real estate operations and was involved in tenant removals.

His murder has shocked the country and triggered an wave of remembrances from his fans, the authorities and various organizations.
A government minister commented he was angry and saddened by Stock's murder.
"He was forthright fearlessly and impartially. He even spoke up against me and my actions as a public official. He was a pure example of who we should be," was his tribute.
A party figurehead stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A media executive noted that "DJ Warras was not merely a TV personality. He was a skilled narrator, a passionate music lover and a warm soul who brought joy and energy to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."
In a communication, the broadcaster he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, warmth and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will live on".
