Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following instigating disrespectful chants directed at their manager, Chris Wilder.

This experienced forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has agreed to a deal joining the second-tier strugglers through the winter. His seven-year spell with Leeds finished amicably in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants about Wilder amid the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the one-cap England international will be playing under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss looks to pull the team he loves away from the bottom places.

Previous History Involving Bamford and Wilder

Both men had a past prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and Sheffield United won direct promotion while Leeds missed out in the playoffs.

Making Amends & Looking Ahead

All appears has been put behind them with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder stated at the time: “Had a conversation with Patrick yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We spent a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he's a great person, a class act. Back in my playing days we used to dish it out and take it and that is an integral part of the game at every level, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 games with Leeds United last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro player has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
