President Trump Welcomes Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Personnel to White House
Former President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has asked the loved ones of a Guard member fatally shot last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Tragic Incident
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in grave state.
Memorials across the state have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both members of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a hard experience, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Support
Attendees assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to the Soldier
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, stated to the press. “She was sweet, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.
Judicial Measures and Policy Adjustments
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event caused the government to suspend asylum processing and halt providing visas to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, began his service in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told Fox News Sunday that she planned to speak to his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from her hometown, graduated from Webster County high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a military police officer with excellence, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the service. “Though her time ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
