The Fashion Icon Antony Price, Famed for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his defined forms and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that became famous from rock band Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"In a tribute, they called him a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
Price's death comes less than a month after he unveiled his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by Princess Diana.
A Pioneering Career
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing menswear at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A frequent collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in designing form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, such as various looks for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price presented his final runway show in London last month in conjunction with the label 16Arlington.
