The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network launched a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as gentle and comforting, reminiscent of a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. During a period often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to develop the story of the Campbell family. The show focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.
"I’m so grateful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
A President's Endorsement
In the same announcement praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you supported this new show, praised it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something unexpectedly cozy about observing this charming family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
What Comes Next
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that very evolution. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
